{"id":205093,"date":"2018-05-07T01:29:45","date_gmt":"2018-05-07T01:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/5f17670acf5743285.temporary.link\/rohsi.org\/?p=205093"},"modified":"2018-05-07T01:30:19","modified_gmt":"2018-05-07T01:30:19","slug":"rohsi-announces-upcoming-globalgiving-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rohsi.org\/?p=205093","title":{"rendered":"ROHSI ANNOUNCES UPCOMING GLOBALGIVING CAMPAIGN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>ROHSI ANNOUNCES UPCOMING GLOBALGIVING FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rohsi.org\">Rays of Hope Support Initiative&#8217;s (ROHSI)<\/a> mission is to provide a platform to wellness by providing health awareness programs and treatment to all in need of care. $10,000 will provide<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Training to 10 qualified health volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Screening and medicine to at least 400 people with hypertension or diabetes<\/li>\n<li>Education and advocacy to 5,000 people in at least five different communities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Challenge<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Nigeria has one of the highest rates of hypertension in the world, with studies showing rates between 30% and 45%. Hypertension accounts for about 25% of emergencies in Nigerian hospitals. Researchers recommend increased awareness and interventions for prevention and early detection of hypertension. This is particularly urgent in Oyo State. Even with early diagnosis, high cost of medication is forcing patients to seek an alternative to drugs. Some patients forego treatment altogether. Without treatment, Hypertension can lead to severe illness or early death.<\/p>\n<p>There is a relationship between Hypertension and Diabetes, which is also on the rise in Nigeria. Diabetes leads to Hypertension, and Hypertension leads to increased complications from Diabetes.<\/p>\n<p><u>Solution <\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rohsi.org\">Rays of Hope Support Initiative<\/a> will<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Continue raising awareness and educating about Hypertension and Diabetes in underserved communities, expanding our reach to 5,000 people in at least five different communities<\/li>\n<li>Provide training to 10 volunteers, or \u201cHealth Champions\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Provide medical screening, medications, and nutritional supplements to at least 400 of those with the greatest need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Providing treatment to those with an existing condition can help reduce the rate of illness and death, while educating about proper diet and exercise will improve health and well-being through prevention.<\/p>\n<p><u>Long-term Impact<\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rohsi.org\">ROHSI<\/a> aims to reduce the prevalence of hypertension in Nigeria in the long-term. We will create partnerships with government health agencies and community development associations to bring awareness and treatment to more communities.
